The rules, regulations and
specifications set forth in the Unity Raceway ("Track") rule
book have been compiled around careful consideration of guidelines
that will best insure safe, competitive and affordable race
events. At any time, should it become necessary in the
interest of fair competition, economy, race promotion, or
in the interest of the race show itself, the Track reserves
the right to modify, add or delete any rule, regulation or
specification.
-DISCLAIMER-
The rules and/or regulations and specifications set forth
herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct or
racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements
for such events. These rules will govern the condition of
all Unity Raceway events, and by participating in these events,
all competitors and their associates are required to comply
with these rules. No express or implied warranty of safety
shall result from publication of, or compliance with, these
rules and/or regulations and specifications. These rules within
this book are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport
and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants,
spectators or others.
-RULE ENFORCEMENT-
Since it would be both impractical and nearly impossible to
list within the confines of any rule book, all the modifications,
adaptations and infractions that could and would be illegal,
it shall be understood for the purpose of rule enforcement
that only those items that are specified in this book are
allowable and permissible. In addition, Unity Raceway management
holds the rights to fine, suspend, eject and/or withhold purse
and points from anyone who violates these rules at anytime.
-GENERAL INFORMATION-
Everyone will be given the opportunity to inspect the racing
surface and race track area to learn any defects, obstructions
or anything which, in his/her opinion, is unsafe and he/she
should report that condition to the management of Unity Raceway.
Any driver entering any racing event is considered to have
inspected to track and to have determined that all conditions
are satisfactory to him/her… if not; HE/SHE SHOULD NOT
RACE. This further indicates that he/she is aware that auto
racing involves risks and he/she assumes these risks with
full awareness and knowledge. Unity Raceway assumes no responsibility
for damage to or loss of your equipment, vehicle or any parts
by any means whatsoever.
Minors: (Ages 0 through 17). Release Forms must be completed
by that parent or legal guardian before the minor will be
allowed to enter the pit area.
-INSURANCE-
Claim Information and/or injury information
When involved in an accident involving and injury to yourself,
advise the racing official immediately so that the necessary
insurance reporting will be accomplished… NO CLAIMS
WILL BE CONSIDERED UNLESS REPORTED TO AN EMT PRIOR TO LEAVING
UNITY RACEWAY THAT DAY. Contact the track safety crew and
give a full report before you leave the Raceway. If physically
unable, your crew will be responsible for this report.
All participants, if transported to hospital via ambulance,
will responsible for all ambulance bills and related costs.
-GENERAL RULES-
1) Unity Raceway reserves the right to reject any entry for
failure to comply with the General Rules and Specifications,
and the individual or individuals violating the General Rules
and/or Specifications, shall be penalized as set forth in
this Rule Book or as decided by the Management.
2) All cars must be registered with Unity Raceway. Any change
in ownership or number must be reported immediately to handicapper
or the Pit Steward.
3) A “race meet” shall, for the purpose of rule
enforcement, be considered to be the period between the opening
the closing of the pit gate.
4) Once entering the pits, car numbers cannot be changed
under any circumstances. All cars entering the pit area must
have a number assigned to it by the Handicapper.
5) When entering the pit area, each person will pay for his/her
own pit pass. Any vehicle which enters the pit and/or track
area is brought at the vehicle owner’s risk. Unity Raceway
will not be responsible for anything that should happen. No
passenger vehicles will be allowed in the pit area.
6) All personnel in the pits will have a pit pass.
6) The management may, at any time, require a physical examination
of a driver or a doctor’s release before he/she is allowed
to compete. The judgment of the EMT is final and without recourse
as to fitness.
7) In case of an accident, the driver or drivers involved
must be examined by the EMT. The EMT’s decisions shall
be final as to whether a driver or member of the pit crew
must go to the hospital. The car owner will responsible for
the enforcement of the rule.
8) If a driver is taken to the hospital by ambulance from
Unity Raceway, that driver will not be eligible to race for
the remainder of that race event. (See General Rule #7.)
9) No one will be allowed to “warm up” or race
a car without a full fire-suit and helmet, which must be securely
fastened at al times when on the race track.
10) Any person in the pit area who has evidence of substance
abuse (beer, wine, liquor or drugs) about him/her or is seen
using any chemical substance during a race meet may be barred
from the pit area and from participating in any racing activities
for the indefinite period of time. Additionally, said person
will forfeit any and all doctors’ and hospital fees
for injuries sustained during the race meet at which time
the offenses occurred.
11) The race car owners/drivers are responsible for the conduct
of the car crew at the track. Any disturbance may result in
the loss of any or all accumulated points, awards and suspension
from track.
12) Any person who gets into a fight the track will be immediately
suspended for the remainder of the night’s events. Any
person deliberately going into another competitor’s
designated area in the pits in a violent or threatening manner
shall also be suspended. The management may impose a suspension
of up to one (1) year. Any driver, car owner, or crew member
found guilty of fighting by making contact with an official
will be subject of up to one (1) year suspension from the
date of the incident. The management will weigh the circumstances
and decide on the degree of the penalty before the next regularly
scheduled race meet. Any person considered to be causing a
disturbance whether verbal of physical, to disrupt the orderly
conduct of racing events, may be removed from pit by the management
for a period of time determined by the same.
13) Owners and drivers will be required to stay with their
cars in the Pits, so the Pit Steward will be able to notify
the Owners and Drivers as to what race they will be competing
in and to get their car ready and in the line up as soon as
possible.
14) All cars must take the position in the line-up assigned
to them by the Pit Steward. Failure to approach the line-up
area when called indicates to the line-up person that you
wish to forfeit your staring position.
15) Mufflers are required on all cars in all classes.
16) Should a driver’s car become in capacitated or
disabled during a qualifying heat, that said, driver may complete
in the feature event another car, providing that car has otherwise
qualified properly.
17) No car will be allowed in more then one (1) heat race
under any circumstances.
18) Cars no involved in an accident in a qualifying race
must start the feature event with full hood, fenders and grill.
19) Draw for heats. Previous weeks, 1st 2nd 3rd will start
at the rear of the feature.
20) Cars caught out of stock can lose all moneys and points
for that event and multiplier for the event, and will run
the rear of the line up for a minimum of three (3) appearing
race meets.
21) In case of any dead heats, in the purses and points relative
to their finishing positions will be pooled and divided equally
between the two cars.
22) With the completion of the registration form, car owners
and drivers individually and jointly agree the Unity Raceway
and its assignees may use their names, pictures and pictures
of the cars in anyway, medium or material for promoting, advertising,
recording or reporting on Unity Raceway events before, during,
and after such events and do hereby relinquish all rights
hereto for these purposes.
23) No points will be awarded in extended races unless otherwise
stated prior to competition.
24) Feature events shortened by unusual conditions (rain,
darkness, fog or other circumstances) will be considered an
official race, as long as 50% or more scheduled green laps
have been completed. The race will be prorated.
25) If you have been cited for an infraction of a rule, a
decision will be rendered before the next race date, that
evening when possible.
26) Rough riding and unsportsmanlike conduct will not be
tolerated. For each offence you, the offender, will be set
back or ejected from the race at the Race Director’s
discretion.
27) If a driver should happen to transfer to another class
of competition his/her points and multipliers will not follow
him/her to the new class.
28) Practice laps for all classes will have a specific time
for practice. No practice will be allowed without a Flagman
in the flag stand, or when the red light is on.
29) All cars will run in their respective classes and no
car will be allowed to run in another class if you break and
need to borrow a car to maintain points, you may do so with
a car in your own class.
30) In case of an accident on the track and the Starter thinks
the track is unsafe, the race may be stopped.
31) Anyone purposely damaging a competitor’s race car,
on or off the track, may be subject to suspension as decided
by the management.
32) Cars smoking excessively will be Black Flagged.
33) Two-way radios are allowed in the SuperStreets ONLY
34) No getting out of your race car during a race, except
in case of fire. You may exit your race car upon the arrival
of safety personnel to your race car or when the yellow flag
has been given.
35) Any intentional contact on a yellow flag will result
in you losing two (2) positions. Any contact after the Checkered
Flag has been given will constitute an immediate disqualification,
loss of awards and points.
36) If your car is not able to get in the line-up in the
Pit area you will be put to the rear of the line-up.
37) Any car entering or exciting the pit area through the
wrong entrance or exit will be set two (2) positions back
at the end of the feature event.
38) No Owner/Driver shall have any claims for damages, expenses
or otherwise against Unity Raceway, Promoter or track operators
by reason of disqualification or damages to the race car,
Driver or both; and they agree that the track is in a safe
and usable condition when they take part in racing activities.
39) All coolers will be checked upon entering the pit area.
Glass of any kind and alcoholic beverages are prohibited and
will be confiscated at the pit gate.
40) Lapped cars will be lined up in restarts as they cross
the start/finish line in the last completed lap. However,
a lapped car will not be placed in the pole position.
41) Drivers may not change race cars once a regularly scheduled
feature event has started. However, in special open events,
Driver may change previously qualified race cars once the
feature event has started.
42) No equipment will be considered as having been approved
by the Track Technician by reason of having passed through
tech or inspection not observed. The Track Technician shall
determine the legality and safety of the construction or design
at any time.
43) Any car spinning out by itself shall be placed at the
tail end of the line-up of a restart. At the discretion of
the Flagman or Race Director, in any race meet, any car not
in competition and considered hazardous to other competitors
will be sent to the pits. If after making the necessary repairs
so that the car can keep up with the competition, the car
my return to the race.
44) All repairs must be made in the pit and not on the track
area. Any car stopping on the track area for repairs or correction,
shall be penalized.
45) Any car entering the track area while cars are moving
n the pace lap or under caution must fall in line at the rear
of the line-up, regardless of where the line-up is on the
track. Cars failing to comply with this procedure will be
penalized one (1) lap at the end of the race.
46) It will be the responsibility of the driver to inform
the Pit Steward of your presences to be able to compete in
the racing event, should the driver be late in entering the
competition.
47) Drivers in all classes are required to wear firesuit.
Drivers are encouraged to wear complete fire gear, ie: shoes,
socks, etc.
Any incident not covered by the Rules and Regulations may
be decided upon by the management and made a rule for the
remainder of the season.
-SAFETY RULES-
The technical inspectors are hired by Unity Raceway and
have the right to inspect all parts of any car as they see
fit. Tech inspectors are not empowered to determine penalties,
as this will be done by the management and Race Director.
All race cars entering the pit area are subject to a visual
technical inspection. It shall be the responsibility of the
car owner to see that his/her car is inspected within the
first two (2) meets of the race season.
1) Firesuits: Nomex only (no flight suits); if firesuit is
ripped or has holes, the Driver will not be allowed to race.
2) Window nets: Window nets are mandatory in all classes.
One end must be securely fastened to the roll cage. The other
must be quick releasing using a seat belt fastener. Window
net installation is subject to Tech inspector approval. Strap
type only, no string type nets.
3) Fire Extinguisher: Fire extinguishers are mandatory. Fire
extinguishers must be a minimum of 2 ½ lbs. dry charged
with a readable gauge. Must be quick release and be within
reach of the driver. “On board” type fire systems
are recommended for all classes.
4) Shoulder Harnesses: Technical inspectors have the authority
to insist that seat belts and shoulder harnesses be replaced
if the condition is considered unsafe. It is recommended that
no belts or harnesses over three (3) years old be used. Seat
belts must be a quick release type, capable of withstanding
a minimum of 3000 lbs. body block test. Seat belts must be
attached at two (2) separate points of the roll cage, equal
distances from the center of the seat back and no less then
12 inches apart. Anti-submarine belts are required in all
classes and must be securely attached to cage piping under
the seat. They must be attached with bolts with a minimum
diameter of 3/8 inch. Bolts must be aligned so that the direction
of stress will be in a direct line with the pull of the seat
belt. If belts are secured to a steel plate attached to the
cage, the plate must be a minimum of ¼ inch thick.
Shoulder straps are compulsory; they may be either a double
or single shoulder strap type, approved by the Track Technicians.
Should straps should be installed so that the direction of
pull will be at a 90 degree angle to the back of the seat.
5) Fuel Cell: Fuel cells are required in all classes. Fuel
cell canisters must be made of a minimum of 22 gauge steel.
Ground clearance must be maintained for the class of the car.
All fuel cells will be surrounded by a metal box and will
be subject to Track Technician’s approval.
6) Racing Seats: Aluminum seats. Seat covers must be removed
during the technical inspection so that the seat belt replacement,
condition of the seat and the seat mounting may be inspected.
The back of seat must not be mounted any further back than
the rear roll cage uprights.
7) Firesuits and helmets will be worn and window net will
be up at all times when you are on the race track. If seen
without the above you will not start.
8) All roll cages will be subject to Track Technician’s
approval.
9) No butt welded joints will be allowed in your roll cage,
you will not be allowed to race until the joints are repaired.
10) All batteries will be securely fastened down and covered
to prevent spillage, location optional inside cars. Battery
box recommended.
11) All cars will run water in the cooling system; no antifreeze,
liquid kool, etc.
12) All cars will have four (4) wheel brakes, spot checks
will be done. If found without brakes, you will be set down
until corrected.
13) Drive Shaft: Must have a steel strap around it, located
12” in front of the U-joint. Drive shaft must be painted
white.
14) No car shall carry more than one (1) person at a time
during a race, practice, warm ups or in the Pit area.
15) All race cars will be equipped with a radiator overflow
bottle. At least a quart in size and securely fastened. A
windshield wash bottle makes an excellent overflow bottle.
16) All cars must be braced with at least 1 ½ O.D.
pipe. The bracing will consist of not less that four (4) upright
pieces from the frame, which must be adequately cross braced
at the top and sides. Four (4) horizontal door bars are required
on the driver’s side and three (3) bars on the right
side. The top horizontal bar on each side must measure 20
inches from the frame. Bracing must be electronically welded.
Tubing used must be at least 1 ½ O.D. and a minimum
of .090 wall thickness. All roll cage installations must be
approved by Unity Raceway Technicians.
17) A working reverse gear is required in all transmissions.
18) All fuel lines passing through the drivers compartment
must be covered.
19) No solvents may be used to soften tire compounds.
20) Carbon fiber wheels are not allowed.
21) Tubular frames must be constructed in accordance with
what is to be considered standard in the local chassis building
industry. Any radical or immoderate changes in structure and
design of a frame must first be approved by the Unity Raceway
Management.
22) All bumpers must have smooth rounded ends.
23) IN THE INTEREST OF FAIRNESS IN COMPETITION AND SAFETY,
WEIGHTS MAY BE ADDED TO OR SUBTRACTED FROM ANY CAR IN ANY
CLASS BY UNITY RACEWAY MANAGEMENT AS DEEMED NECESSARY.
24) Deflector plates on the driver’s side of the car
are recommended. Any car that is not equipped with a deflector
plates on the driver’s side of the car, and should lose
the driver’s side door during competition will be Black
Flagged from the race.
25) Sliding weight systems or devices are not allowed.
26) Wheel cages must be secured prior to start of race (heats
and features).
Anything not covered by these rules shall remain stock unaltered
as made by the manufacturer. For the purpose of the rule enforcement,
the term “stock” shall be understood to mean the
parts must be of original equipment manufacture production
(ie GM, Ford, Chrysler).
-MEDICAL RULES –
1) The Management shall arrange for a Medical Crew (EMT)
to be in attendance at all racing events. Participants refusing
to follow instructions of the EMT will forfeit insurance protection
and racing privileges.
2) In the event of an accident, pit crews will be required
to stay in the pit area, unless called for.
3) Drivers involved in a accident must be examined by the
EMT. The EMT’s decision is final as to whether the driver
of pit person must go to the hospital. Failure to comply may
result in suspension for three (3) race meets and the forfeit
of medical benefits. After an injury, insurance will not pay
once you have returned to racing. No claims will be considered
unless the incident has been reported to an EMT prior to exiting
Unity Raceway property of that event.
4) Unity Raceway Management requires a physical examination
of a Driver who has been hurt while participating at Unity
Raceway. A Doctor’s release starting the Driver is able
to participate will be required before they are allowed to
compete
-NUMBER RULES-
1) All numbers will be assigned by the handicapper or head
scorer.
2) Assigned numbers will be held for current year. Verbal
renewal is required during the off season.
3) Car numbers will not have more than one driver assigned
to it.
4) Any change in ownership of a number must be reported immediately
to the handicapper.
5) Numbers must be at least 18" high and 3" wide,
neatly lettered. It is recommended that they be as large as
possible for visibility in scoring. They must contrast with
the color of the car body. The number will be on the roof
for the scoring booth. This number should be readable from
the right side of the race car. The number should also appear
on the trunk cover and readable from the rear.
6) Scorers will not accept responsibility for the incorrect
scoring of race cars that are not clearly and easily read
under the lights.
7) Three digit numbers are NOT allowed.
8) New “X” s are reserved for visiting cars from
other tracks. Those cars that have “X” as part
of their numberprior to 2007 can keep the “X”.
9) If you are told by the head scorer that your number is
not readable and needs to be repainted or corrected, it will
be done by the following race or you will not be scored.
-TEAR DOWNS-
Definition of stock: Stock will coincide with the term O.E.M.
(Original Equipment Manufacturer). The part must come in a
standard equipped car.
1) All race cars entering the pit area are subject to visual
technical inspection. If shall be the responsibility of the
race car owner/driver to see that his/her car is inspected
within the first two (2) meets of the race season.
2) All rear-ends checks will be subject to covers off gears
or transmissions on the bench or both.
3) Any owner/driver who has been cited for an infraction
of a rule; it will be their responsibility to get it corrected
and inspected before the car can race again.
4) All race cars shall be subject to Unity Raceway’s
scales and specifications.
5) A single owner/driver may protest a car by putting the
protest in writing, with a detail of one (1) item, along with
$100 with fifteen (15) minutes before the race. If said car
proves to be out of stock, $75 will revert back to the protester.
If the protested car is found to be legal, the owner of said
car will be given the $75. The protest must be lodged with
the Track Technician. Also, if during the tear down anything
else should be found illegal other than what was in writing,
said money will go to Unity Raceway’s point fund.
6) All cars shall be subject to a tear down at the request
of the track officials; there will be no money paid by the
track for a tear down of this nature. If a car is found illegal,
the track reserves the right to inspect the car for the same
infraction before it is allowed in further competition. The
track may also confiscate parts at their discretion and return
them at the end of the season. NO exceptions.
7) Cars found out of stock for any reason; the driver of
said car will forfeit all winnings and points for the meet.
Also, the driver and car will start the rear for three (3)
race meets.
8) If said owner/driver of a questioned car refuses to allow
their car to be completely examined, the car will be considered
out of stock and subject to inspection at the next race meet
and/or will be considered suspended until inspected.
9) The only persons authorized to be present at tear downs
are the car owner(s), driver, two (2) of his assistants, the
management and the Track Technicians, except by special invitation.
No liquor will be present during tear downs.
10) The track reserves the right to have any owner/driver
excluded from the tear down if their conduct interferes with
the tear down procedures.
11) After a win, a car is subject to a tear down.
12) Any protest as to the eligibility of a car made to the
Track Technician prior to the start of the racing events,
and if the Track Technician is able to rectify the discrepancy,
no further action will be taken.
13) The Track Technician will have the power to inspect any
car at any time. They may reject any car that they consider
unsafe, illegal or inappropriate for a specific class.
14) The top FIVE (5) finishers of the feature event will
be required to report to the Tech Garage for weighing and
inspection.
-FLAG RULES-
The Race Director and/or Flagman shall be responsible for
the enforcement of flag and track rules. All decisions made
by the Race Director and/or Flagman shall stand for the remainder
of the race meet and may be appealed after the race is over.
If any driver disobeys any flag he/she shall forfeit points
and/or purse for the meet.
GREEN FLAG: The Green Flag shall start all races and means
the track is clear. On original line-up, no passing will be
allowed before cars pass the flag stand. Any car that sets
out of line to jump the flag by passing cars before reaching
the flag stand on the original start or by passing before
the Green Flag is thrown on restarts, shall be penalized two
(2) positions for each car passed. The penalty will be imposed
at the completion of the race.
YELLOW FLAG: We will NOT race to the yellow. The Yellow Flag
means caution, the track is not clear, hold your positions.
RED FLAG: The Red Flag means danger and all cars should stop
at once. When the Red Flag or light is displayed, all cars
must stop, regardless of position on the track, so that the
track is clear for ambulances and/or fire trucks. This flag
could get you into trouble; if you fail to stop and continue
going forward you will be sent to the rear of the line up.
If a Red Flag should be given, you will not be able to take
your race car into the pit area for repairs. You may take
your car into the pit area only after the Yellow Flag has
been given on the track.
** In the event that a specific race must be stopped or “Red
Flagged” during the final lap of the competition, the
race may be considered complete at the discretion of the Race
Director or Management. And in that case, the final finishing
positions would be determined from the last lap raced and
scored under the Green Flag and any car or cars that caused
the stopping of the race would be scored in the last place
finishing positions of those still competing in the race.
WHITE FLAG: When the White Flag is displayed, it means the
lead car has started the final lap of the race.
PASSING FLAG: The Blue flag with the Yellow stripe is the
Passing Flag. The flag may be given only to cars that are
being lapped. Said cars shall immediately move to the inside
until the lapping car or cars have passed.
BLACK FLAG: When the Black Flag is displayed, it means your
car or driving style is a hazard and exit to the pits immediately.
BLACK AND PASSING FLAGS: Displayed horizontally means to
check your position on the race track and allow room for competition
or be sent to the rear or ejected from the race.
CHECKERED FLAG: When the Checkered Flag is given to the lead
car, the race is officially over and all cars will stop upon
completion of that lap. Finishing position will be paid according
to distance run.
CROSSED YELLOW AND WHITE FLAGS: When the Yellow and White
Flags are held up crossed, it means the race has reached the
halfway point.
WHITE AND CHECKERED FLAG: When the White and Checkered Flags
are held parallel together, it means there are two laps left
to the race.
Starts, Restarts and Repairs: Any car not making the original
line-up or a consolation race shall fall to the rear of the
line-up.
In the event of a Restart, cars will be allowed to go to
the pit area for repairs. Cars going to the pit area will
fall to the rear of the line-up with no questions asked.
Car(s) causing a Yellow or Red Flag shall go to the rear
of the line-up or to the pit. The Flagman will consult the
Race Director and Judges in his decision.
